EXPERIMENTAL CANCER MEDICINE CENTRES (ECMCs)

As part of the National Framework for Experimental Medicine, the Departments of Health in England and the devolved administrations, together with Cancer Research UK, established the ECMC Network in 2007 with an investment of £35m from 2007 to 2012 and a further investment of £35m for 2012 to 2017. The aim of the Network is to bring together laboratory and clinical patient-based research, to speed up the development of new therapies.

There are 19 individual Experimental Cancer Medicine Centres and the Network is supported by a small secretariat team based in Cancer Research UK and supported by the National Institute for Health Research. The secretariat also helps with developing links, arranging specialist meetings and workshops, and managing the governance of the network.

Find out more about the ECMC Network, including details of each ECMC and the specialist meetings and groups of the ECMC Network.

CancerHelp UK (www.cancerhelp.org.uk) will collate information on Phase I trials which are open to patients and will include this information in their Cancer Trials online database.
