Improving cancer trials for young people

A study for the NCRI Teenage & Young Adults Clinical Studies Group (TYA CSG) has been published in The Lancet Oncology.

The study, led by Dr Lorna Fern (TYA CSG member) and Professor Jeremy Whelan (TYA CSG Chair) looked at the impact of under representation of teenagers and young adults in clinical trials and recommends a strategy to improve participation.

It showed that teenagers and young adult (TYA) recruitment into clinical trials increased between 2005 and 2010 due to an increase in the availability and access to trials for young people, increased awareness from healthcare professionals, patients and the public about research and importantly the opening of trials with broader age limits which allow older TYAs to enter trials.
