Congratulations to our former Director, Dr Jane Cope, on her MBE for services to cancer research

Dr Jane Cope, former NCRI Director has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2014 – she has been honoured with a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her services for cancer research.

Speaking to us after the announcement, Jane said. “It’s an honour to receive such recognition; however this award would not have been possible without the ethos of partnership and teamwork that is at the heart of NCRI. It is through the hard work of hundreds of researchers, funding partners, patients, secretariat staff and many others that NCRI has become established as a national focus for collaboration in cancer research. I hope that everyone who has contributed to the success of the NCRI will feel they have a share in this award.”

Jane stepped down last October after leading the NCRI for nine years. She will be invited to receive her award at a forthcoming Investiture at Buckingham Palace.

Dr Karen Kennedy, who took over from Jane as Director of NCRI said “We are delighted for Jane; it’s a wonderful recognition of her leadership. She guided the NCRI Partnership with great commitment over her nine years as Director; helping to establish the NCRI Cancer Conference as a top platform for British and international cancer research, and to establish many other important initiatives and collaborations to drive progress in cancer research. I look forward to seeing the work of the NCRI partnership continue to support cancer research over the next decade and beyond. “
