Appointment of new NCRI Consumer Lead
We are pleased to announce that Emma Kinloch has been appointed as NCRI Consumer Lead, effective from 1 April 2019. Emma will take over from Richard Stephens whose tenure in the role will come to an end on 31 March.
Emma brings with her a wealth of experience in galvanising patient involvement in research. Emma founded a London based Head and Neck cancer support group and is currently expanding her activities to set up a charity focused on rare salivary gland cancers. She is a member of the Head and Neck EURACAN domain, sits on the NCRI Head and Neck Clinical Studies Group, the Royal College of Radiologists Clinical Oncology Academic Committee and the NIHR Health Technology Assessment Prioritisation Committee B. Emma has also been an NCRI consumer representative on the NCRI Head and Neck Clinical Studies Group for the last three years.
Emma says, “I’m honoured to be leading the Consumer Forum and look forward to continuing its great work – contributing our knowledge and expertise as patients and carers across the cancer research community will help ensure research is focused on delivering maximum patient benefit.“

Through the NCRI Consumer Forum, the UK has a hub of experts with first-hand experience of cancer and links to patient groups far and wide. We’re excited that Emma will be taking up the role of Consumer Lead, the valuable insights and perspectives she brings will be a great asset and I look forward to working with her.”
Richard Stephens will step down at the end of his four-year tenure, on 31 March. Richard has been involved in cancer research since the early days of the NCRI, and will continue to be a valued colleague and advisor to NCRI.
Richard says, “It’s been a pleasure to lead the NCRI Consumer Forum over the last four years and I am proud of the progress that our experience as patients and carers has helped to make. My thanks to all the people with whom I have worked. But please note that it is thank-you and most definitely not goodbye. There is still lots more progress to make!”
