This month we welcomed two new Partner representatives – Rob Buckle from MRC and Angharad Kerr at Health and Care Research Wales. We asked Angharad a few questions about what her roles entail and the importance of the NCRI in supporting collaborative working.
What is your current position within Health and Care Research Wales?
I am the Senior Policy Manager for Experimental Medicine.
Please tell us a little more about your role and how it links with collaborative working in cancer research.
I work for Health and Care Research Wales and the R&D division of the Welsh Government Department of Health, where I am the official responsible for research policy in cancer, genetics, genomics and precision medicine, stem cells and regenerative medicine and experimental medicine. Health and Care Research Wales funds the Wales Cancer Research Centre and I work as part of a team to manage this grant award.
How does the NCRI and Welsh Government partnership help support progress in cancer research?
The partnership enables Health and Care Research Wales to work with partners to identify gaps in funding and work collaboratively to support research activities, maximising the value of the individual organisations’ investments. It also ensures that the Welsh Government is informed of key developments in the UK cancer research landscape to inform its policies and strategies in cancer.
