In his speech on World Cancer Day, Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid launched a call for evidence to underpin the government’s 10-Year Cancer Plan for England, which includes a renewed focus on innovative cancer treatment and early diagnosis.

NCRI believes that better outcomes can be delivered for all those affected by cancer by building on the strength of cancer research in the UK. NCRI is a partnership of cancer research funders, established in 2001, in response to the first NHS Cancer Plan. We work with cancer research funders to ensure coordination, looking out for unnecessary and expensive duplication of effort and guard against it. We identify opportunities and address challenges in cancer research, working with the best cancer researchers in the country to develop research that will accelerate and deliver better outcomes for all those affected by cancer.

NCRI has responded to this call for evidence highlighting where well-funded, well-designed research can provide evidence for practice change and where NCRI can convene people from government, charities, researchers and patient representatives to collaborate to achieve a shared vision.
